Sometimes your own backyard is the best location for family photos. It's a comfortable and familiar place.
Every year I do more and more backyard family photography sessions. Your home is where you are most comfortable. If you have kids, it’s a safe place for them to be themselves. If you have pets, they can run free. Best of all, because everyone is so comfortable, the photos are always full of love and happiness.
NOT SURE IF YOUR OUTDOOR SPACE WORKS FOR PHOTOS? HERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO LOOK FOR:
-Where does the sun set? What is the background like in that space? Are there tall trees to filter the light? Is it wide open and exposed? Those will help up determine what time is best.
-Is there anywhere visually appealing to you?
-Do you have anything that can be used as a neutral background? An area of trees, a garden, even a fence?
The area doesn’t have to be huge if it’s for a few people. If we’re doing an extended family session with 12 people then we need a larger space for at least one group photo.
